Just not 4kids

Alright, I know this isn't exactly related to video games or, but this is something I've just gotta really get off my mind before I go crazy. I sincerely and completely hate 4kids Entertainment.

Originating as a company that obtained licenses to Anime and the like (The first and most well known being Pokemon) 4kids has gone on the record of censoring, cutting, removing, and changing ANYTHING that they didn't consider kid friendly or American. Now while I can understand some edits (Such as a character wearing boobs that they can fill with air to cause them to grow), the others I can't nor forgive.

Every show that it's been able to get it's grubby little hands on, Pokemon, Shaman King, and probably the most famous failure of all, One Peice (which was edited so badly by the company that in the end they gave it up as a lost cause), there's little I'd ever find wothy of dealing with that has the 4kids brand name on it.

Then of course, comes the 2003 rendition of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is a quality show amongst the likes of Gargoyles, Batman: The Animated Series, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. The characters have personality, conflicts, issues, so much life is given to these characters that they seem tangable. Surprisingly, 4kids left the show be, letting it grow and become a true show for everyone to enjoy, not just the 4-11 age bracket.

And then they thought better of that, deciding to completely and totaly disregard the story that the creators had set up, making for their own 'Turtles in the Future' themed story in hopes of more viewers. It's this kind of underhanded and outright disrespectful treatment to it's viewers that causes me to disregard this company and all it holds.

Japanese text isn't evil, nor is the ideas of spirts, energies, or chi. If you can't handle what was in the source material, then leave it alone. Go produce Teletubbie Movies for all I care, just stay away from what makes a show, be it Anime or an American Cartoon, the fantastic piece of fiction and entertainment it is.

Sorry that I'm using my blog for this, but I seriously needed to rant about it.

100% agreed. I will never forgive them for the horrible treatment they gave the Card Captor Sakura (US: Cardcaptors) series...
